While you might usually enjoy going off piste and enjoying the thrill of a spot of solo travel, backpacking across Peru or enjoying the hostel hopping joys of Thailand, the chances are that you need another holiday as soon as you arrive home.
These sorts of breaks away can be life affirming and allow you to immerse yourself in different cultures but they can be tiring. So instead, you might fancy opting for a more relaxing affair. Heading overseas doesn’t mean that you have to be on the go all the time trying to squeeze as much into your break as possible. Read on to discover the ultimate breaks that will see you recharging your batteries and returning home refreshed and reinvigorated.
Spain
The beautiful sunny beaches of Spain’s south coast are full of tourists wanting to catch some rays and relax for a fortnight. You can join them. Spain has been welcoming sun seekers for decades and prides itself on providing everything a holidaymaker needs. If you want to spend your days relaxing by a pool, they’ll be a resort to provide that. If you want to hire a sun lounger and lie on the beach all day, go for it. Sometimes, Marbella apartments are a good alternative to hotels, as you won’t have the stress of staying with other people and feeling cooped up. An apartment gives you the freedom to cook when you want, you may have a pool to yourself and you won’t have to worry about noisy tourists in the room next to you.
Iceland
Definitely on my bucket list, while markedly colder, Iceland has an air of luxury about it. You can choose to be as active or as sedentary as you like when you head to the Land of Fire and Ice. Here, you could choose to stay in a luxury Reykjavik apartment to while away the days during your relaxing city break. Head to Iceland in the winter, and you could enjoy one of the many thermal hot spas dotted across the island. The high end blue lagoon could see you bathing in the natural warm springs on the island while the snow is falling. This juxtaposition of activity and weather can feel odd, but it is hugely relaxing. Couple this with some time in the sauna or a mud facial and you have a unique spa experience.
Paris
For a city break with a difference, head to the glorious laid back city of Paris. Yes, you could whip on your walking boots and squeeze in as many tourist sights and monuments as possible, or you could go at a much slower pace. You could relax on a half day cruise down the Seine river, taking in Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre from the comfort of an open air deck on board your vessel. Here, you can partake in a relaxing lunch, enjoy a tipple of champagne and while away the hours before returning to your hotel. Go for a luxury five star boutique hotel, and the chances are it will have a spa and pool free for you use.
There’s nothing better than getting away from it all for a few days to relax and recharge your batteries.
