Growing Your Own Fruit, Vegetables & Herbs

Having some green space and not taking the opportunity to try and grow some plants with your little ones means that you’re really missing out. The experience of watching a seed grow and evolve into something extraordinary that they can eventually consume is a great experience, and you can also teach them some very valuable lessons about the life cycle at the same time! There are so many different plants that are super easy to cultivate, and can produce some colourful and tasty fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers that you can proudly eat proudly as a family knowing that your hard work together made it all happen. From tomatoes to carrots, strawberries or potatoes, basil to sunflowers - any kind of seeds are available to purchase in garden centres and even supermarkets. Simply designate a section of your garden to each different kind of seed, whether this be planted in the ground or housed in a pot, and follow the instructions regarding how much water and fertiliser or plant food you have to provide them with to grow strong. In a matter of weeks, you can transform your garden into a whole new thriving ecosystem, with bright colours and beautiful smells galore! Your new arrangement will also attract different wildlife, from butterflies to bees and birds, so you can really feel as close to nature as ever.

The Perfect Outdoor Furniture

Your garden doesn’t have to be an expanse of empty green space, as there are so many great functional pieces of outdoor furniture for you to choose from. If you have the space, set up some kind you of decked area with perfect patio roofing to create a space in which you can seek refuge from the sun in the peak hours whilst still getting some fresh air. Invest in a suitable table and set of chairs, maybe foldable so that you can eat outside comfortably but still easily make room for activities whenever you need to.

Another great piece of furniture to purchase is a barbecue grill, as cooking outside is a fun activity. There are so many different kinds, you can even build your own pizza oven with a bit of time and effort.

Games & Toys For Family Activities

Children can get bored easily so you might want to get them some games or toys to play with. If you're really lucky you could invest in a pool. OK, so it might have to be a small inflatable paddling pool that you can fill up with just a few buckets of water, or you may be able to afford a solid build complete with filters and jets. Any kind of water feature will provide your little ones with endless hours of fun, and help to keep them cool when the temperature rises. A slide or similar park item is another great addition, as they don’t take up too much room and can be easily dismantled if you want to when winter comes back around. Something as simple as a magnifying glass can provide children with hours of educational entertainment too, as there are so many insects and lifeforms in the garden to learn more about.

Organise A Garden Party

Inviting family and friends over to enjoy your garden in the sun together can make for a wonderful day, and there are some great extra features you can consider including to create some wonderful memories. DIY homemade bunting can be a really fun activity, and will make your garden feel more personal. Make sure that you have enough seating for everyone invited, and fire up the grill ready for their arrival. Encourage your friends and family to bring a dish each, so that you can create an amazing choice of food for a brilliant dinner together. If you think you might continue the party and enjoy your garden into the night, then it’s a great idea to install some kind of fairy lights to guide the way from your house to the seating area to avoid any trips and falls, and perhaps invest in some citronella candles to make sure that you don’t attract too many bugs or mosquitoes.

Hopefully these tips will help you create the perfect outdoor space for the whole family to enjoy.
